Guess what I got in the mail... [Aug. 8th, 2005|11:18 pm]

So, what did I find the mailbox today? Not ponies. It was ANOTHER wedding invitation! Argh. I've lost track of the number of weddings I've been to this year.

Today was the first day I used my nifty new coffee maker with the built-in grinder. It wasn't as exciting as I thought. The timer mechanism didn't go off at 7AM because I didn't hit the "program" button. Oh well.
I'm testing out my own blend: 2 tablespoons of Starbucks House Blend Decaf + 1 tablespoon of Starbucks Breakfast Blend Regular. Just plain decaf doesn't taste right. Just straight Starbucks has too much caffeine. It makes me rather jittery. >_< My brother would not approve of "corporate coffee", but I like the way it tastes.

Also, pondering my recent auction for Baby Tranquility. It ended tonight without any bids. eBay is so unpredictable these days, which is the explanation for the high starting price. Summer is a slow season for pony sales. Recently, a lot of really great customs (by other customizers) sold for ridiculously low prices. Makes me wonder: it's almost not worth it to customize, given the time & material cost. The people who sold them probably LOST money on buying the parts & the listing fees. Hmmmm...good thing I don't depend on selling customs to pay the bills! ^_^ I'll try working out an analysis & write that "eBay article" someday.

I always feel bad when I see customs go for low prices on ebay...I think only someone who makes customs can understand that it takes a lot more work than it looks like... maybe try listing Baby Tranquility later on during the year, I'm sure youll have better luck then, shes a gorgeous pony.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, even a "basic" custom can take hours.

I added Baby Tranquility to my "customs for sale page". I'm not worried...since I'd rather keep a custom than to sell her for a loss! ^_^

Yeah, customs definitely aren't worth the time if you're trying to do it for money reasons. Yours sell for more than most, so it might not be as much of an opportunity cost for you, but for most of us...there are reasons I'm looking into other ways to make money. :)

I agree. Some people actually believe they can make a fortune selling customs. The market just isn't there right now. Most pony collectors are fairly young & on tight budgets. The essentials like food & rent come first. ^_^

The eBay article would be much appreciated. ^^; After last summer, I think we're just going to sit on all completed customs until fall this time around...not that we need it to pay the bills, but still. Can't afford it otherwise and it's such a great form of stress relief! *sigh*

I'll try to get around to writing the article...but we still need to wait until the market picks up! ^_^ Lately, I've been selling most of my customs directly from my website. Some people do not have access to eBay.

See, we haven't had much luck selling from the site... we made our first sale from there and that was it. I'd really LIKE to go to straight from site sales and forget eBay altogether. >_O Okay, yes, less chance of big, hundred dollar sales (not that we've ever gotten one that big, but hey! We've done good!), but still. Less go between.

I'm very glad you had her starting price at $65. It would have been a shame to see her go for anything less. I remember when I first got into MLP customs, the really good ones (Yours, Lady Minty's, the British womans, and Nightlights) went for what they deserved---always over $50. Accurate, well done pony customization is truly an art form, and those who do it well should have the prices of their customs reflected as such. Glad you're keeping Baby T. for now. I know someone will just have to have her someday!

Thanks! ^_^ Someone did place Baby Tranquility on hold already.
There were some really awesome customs, by well known customizers, that sold for less than $30...I really think the buyers are all on vacation right now. ^_~

Baby Tranquility

She is definitely adorable, I was tempted to bid on her, but right now with getting school stuff, I had to pass on her.

Re: baby T

Thank you for the comments. ^_^ I try to make my designs unique. It's fun to invent new customs that are different.
