The Midsummer Contest deadline is tomorrow. Here's an updated text list of the entries received as of Friday, June 9th, 2006 (you might need to re-load the page to see the update):

In other news...

The pony on the left is 1st gen pony with a sculpted gumball machine symbol. I found a piece of curved plastic that works just right as the "container". I still have to paint the symbol and fill in the "gumballs". The pony is going to have kanekalon or saran hair in primary colors. Haven't thought of a name for this one yet.

The pony on the right is going to be a gargoyle pony. I know it's not a new idea, but I thought it would work well with this sitting pose bait. Her wings were shaped from wire mesh and embedded firmly into the pony's body. It's also an experiment with Efa-plast, an air drying sculpting medium that is similar to Paperclay. I will be posting a product review once the pony is complete. It's an interesting alternative to Fimo and epoxy formulations. The pic on the right is just for fun...I was playing with a clay extruder. ^_^ The completed pony isn't going to have "hair", LOL!

Great ideas!

Wow, I really admire the imagination you put into your ponies! I've just completed my very first custom pony and kept her fairly simple, but at least now I know the challenges involved.

Looking forward to seeing the results of your summer contest! :)

Re: Great ideas!

Thanks! Even a simple pony can be challenging...most non-customizers don't know that. ^_~

Awww, I love both of them so far! I can't wait to see the gargolyle one completed. I may have to ask you for help when I get around to anchoring wings in a custom I'm working on. I'm always scared they'll wiggle around. >.

Re: wild wonders

Thanks for the comment. Hmmmm...perhaps I should write a tutorial on anchoring wings. I've tried several techniques - there are pros and cons to each one. I usually leave the ends on the inside really long & just twist them togther.

Oh yay! Can't wait to see all the entries.

The gumball pony is a great idea! It's going to be adorable, and so much fun! And I love those sitting ponies...a gargoyl is a really appropriate custom for one!

Thanks! I just posted the entries. ^_^
I'm still deciding on what to do about the gumball pony...her design wasn't set when I started on her.

Can't stand it!

Boy, am I nervous... Can't wait until I can see all the entries to the competition! I feel like a child on christmas, waiting to see what's in their presents. ;D
When is the voting going to start? And is it one vote per IP/e-mail address or what are the rules? :)

Re: Can't stand it!

LOL, well, I just posted the entries and this year's are definitely worth the wait! There are some amazingly creative designs. ^_^

Voting starts Wednesday and runs for 1 week. I'm still working on the voting form...it's probably going to use IP checking and/or cookies (I don't like cookies, though). I also check them by hand. Last year, we had a lot of cheaters. =(

I'm going to say it's one vote per person. You're not allowed to advertise your entry (like telling all your friends/relatives to vote for you). If you have more than one person at the address who wants to vote (like several kids), you can e-mail the votes to me.
