Hmmmm.

I took my grandpa shopping for groceries on Saturday & found this at the dollar store next door. It's a fakie in the most garish shade of translucent green. It even has sparkles! I'm sure Hasbro wouldn't make anything this toxic looking. (Or would they? I just thought about G1 Starhopper. However, that one is a more pleasant shade of green and not so yellow.) Yes, fakies do have their uses. ^_^
They had other ones in pink, blue, orange, and purple.

I doubt this is from a factory producing real Hasbro ponies. Even though the eyes look pretty good. The pony smells like chemicals...not too pleasant. Hopefully, the scent will fade with time. A bath didn't help.

The quality control is not that great. The pony's feet don't rest completely on the ground. It's mane only has one row and the tail is actually a ring of rooted hair. Well, I can't complain too much since she was only $1. I'm turning this one into a "radioactive themed" custom pony. ^_^

And here's the real baby merpony. I was planning on leaving the tail fin pearlescent white, but it doesn't look finished. So, it's getting coat of yellow-green glaze.

Oh man! She turned out really beautifully! The glass bead detail on her tail really makes it I think. More great work- will you ever be outdone? =P I really love the paint job you did on Whimsical Garden, as well =)

A radioactive-themed pony..... named New Jersey? XD (I kid, I kid :p) You really did find some awesome fakies, though. This one's bound to look way cool!

I found these same fakies in a dollar store in my home town about a month ago. I customized one and the repaint took forever. Also the I had to clay parts onto the pony just to get the poor thing to stand up. Anyway, hope you have better luck with the radioactive pony. By the way, the baby mer pony is looking good!

Yes, quality control is pretty bad on these ponies. In the stores, I picked through a bunch of them before I found this one. She still doesn't stand on all fours.

Wow these ponies will look splendid when they are finished!!! Your artwork is simply miraculous! And you find fakies that almost look like the real thing! (?) Besides the color, of course! ^_^ Keep up the great work!

Thanks! These fakies were in poses just like the Hasbro originals. I found them at a dollar store.

Aw Man...

I didn't think those dollar store ponies were that bad. On my limited budget they're all I could afford (the newer dollarstore ones are worse >>); I got like 20 of them for the price of 5 G3's after all. I personally haven't had real difficulty in repainting them. Of course, I'm fairly new to the customizing MLP gig, so what do I know?

Your site is amazing and my number one resource tool when I repaint my ponies. Thank you for existing ^^

Re: Aw Man...

Thanks for the comment about my site. I don't think these fakies are that bad (especially for the price), however, this one's not going through an entire repaint. I had to pick through a bunch of them to get one that I liked.

trouble with the fakies

did you have trouble ripping the hair out of the fake pony? I'm working on an orange one and it's proving difficult :\
